Is your work ready to submit for publication--and, if so, where should you send it? Scribble House will help you answer those questions with our Submission Prep Service. Get the perspective of a professional editor who also works on the staff of a literary journal. When you send a piece for this service, we will:
- Proofread to fix spelling and grammar errors
- Format the piece to Standard Manuscript Formatting in two versions (one with your name, one anonymized)
- Provide written comments on if we feel the piece is ready to submit and, if not, what still needs to be improved to get it there
- Provide a list of 8-10 currently open markets that could be a good fit for the work (and why)
Our turnaround time for Submission Prep Services is typically 7-10 days after receiving the file. You'll get a more specific timeline in the email confirming receipt of your file.

Developmental editing is a comprehensive review of a work that aims to improve core big-picture elements like:
- Overall structure, flow, and narrative arc
- Plot and pacing, addressing any plot holes or timeline issues
- Character development and motivations
- Use of themes and imagery
- Descriptive language, tone, and mood
- Consistency and authenticity of the narrative voice and character voices in dialogue
When you book Developmental Editing Services, you'll be charged an initial $49 deposit and be prompted to schedule a Zoom call. An editor will conduct the first hour of editing on the work and send their comments to you in advance of the call. You can then discuss the project and your goals for it with the editor, as well as their initial edits, to decide whether it's a good fit. If so, our editor will provide a total project cost estimate and a timeline for when edits will be complete.
You can click on the service below to start the developmental editing process and book the initial Zoom call online:
